YATE TOWN kept their first clean sheet of the season to earn a second bite of the cherry against Merthyr.
After a stalemate at Cinderford’s Causeway Stadium, the sides will meet again at Lodge Road tomorrow night (7.45pm) with the winners set to visit Slough in the first qualifying round.
Yate striker Ricky Hulbert was denied by Merthyr goalkeeper Giles Cutlan early on, before the Welsh outfit began to create more chances.
Ryan Prosser fired over from ten yards before Yate stopper Martin Horsell saved Kerry Morgan’s shot and somehow kept out the rebound effort by Marcus Griffiths.
Horsell also did well to tip Kris Leek’s 30-yard strike over the bar after the break as neither side were able to break the deadlock.
