GIANT CC Halo Films have taken the new year by storm with wins on consecutive weekends at Omnium events held at the Newport International Velodrome.

In the inaugural League of Veteran Racing Cyclists (LVRC) Omnium, the team secured two wins and a third place.

Held in the Olympic style format, it comprised six events across two days of competition.

Berkeley-based cyclist Peter Georgi won the B Age Category for 45 to 49-year-olds, winning the 3km individual pursuit and the 750m time trial, and was placed second in each of the other events – flying lap, 15km points race, elimination race and 10km scratch race.

Scoring in an Omnium is on a cumulative basis, with the winning rider in each event given one point.

Thus, the winner is the cyclist with the least points.

Georgi finished with a clear margin of five points over his closest rival.

Frenchay-based team-mate, Chris Davis, competing in the D Age Category for 55 to 59-year-olds, took a clean sweep, winning all of his six events and finishing an impressive 10 points ahead of his nearest competitor.

Olveston-based Johannes Roux finished third overall in the B Age Category, achieving second places in the time trial and individual pursuit, third in the flying lap, points race and elimination, and fourth in the scratch race.

Last weekend saw action from the younger members of the club, with Newport hosting the second Icebreaker Omnium event.

Castle School student Pfeiffer Georgi, 13, repeated her win from the first Icebreaker in the under-14 girls’ category, but this time winning every event.

Her brother Etienne Georgi, 15, improved his overall final standing to seventh place in the under-16 boys’ category, including impressive tactical riding to gain second place in the elimination event.
