Southern League Division One South & West

AFC Totton 1 Yate Town 3

YATE Town continued their impressive start to the new campaign with victory at AFC Totton and are now the only team in the division to have a 100 per cent record.

A brace from Jake Jackson and a goal from Tom Warren on his first competitive appearance in his third spell at the club secured the three points.

Totton, who had won their first two games since being relegated from the Premier Division, had the first shot in anger when Kyle O’Brien fired over from just outside the box but Yate went on to dominate the first half, forcing 12 corners.

James Harmer had a low effort well saved by Totton keeper Steve Mowthorpe in the fifth minute but Dale Evans went closer to scoring when he struck the bar, while Joe Chandler and Jordan Rogers both had efforts on goal.

Yate made a slow start to the second half and conceded their first goal of the season within 11 minutes when Nathaniel Sherbourne tucked the ball past Martin Horsell from eight yards to put Totton in front.

The visitors showed great composure though, and equalised on 73 minutes when Jackson slotted the ball away after a handy ricochet off the defender.

Yate took the lead on 80 minutes when Warren seized on a poor headed clearance to hammer home from eight yards.

Jackson added his second and Yate’s third with a deadly finish after Jordan Rogers’ shot was cleared off the line.

Yate are now two points clear at the top of the table and take on fellow unbeaten side Evesham United at Lodge Road on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Yate Town: Horsell (c), Staley, Chandler, Warren (Felix 82), Lewis, Tippins, Harmer, Evans, Ricketts, Rogers, Jackson.
