TEN students from Chipping Sodbury Tang Soo Do enjoyed great success as part of the Great Britain team at the World Tang Soo Do Association World Championships in USA.

Paul Townsley won the Grand Champion trophy in the Senior Black Belt category, as well as three gold medals at the event held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In total the Chipping Sodbury students alone brought back eight gold, six silver and ten bronze medals.

The Townsley family brought back several medals with Paul's son Connor claiming two golds and a bronze.

His other son William won a gold and two silvers, while his wife Linda added one gold and two bronze medals.

Marina Hosken won the club's other gold medal and also picked up two bronzes, while Gemma Rallison came home with one sliver and two bronze medals.

Sue Marchant won a silver medal, Beverley Sadier a silver and a bronze with Lucia Sadier taking two bronze medals.

It really was an outstanding achievement from a dedicated group and is another example of the success this local club has achieved.

In total 55 students from Great Britain competed in the Championships.

Each one of them competed in three disciplines – forms, fighting and weapons – and all performed to the highest level.

They qualified by competing and being placed in the Nationals and European Championships.

It has been a long hard road for them with much training and some fundraising along the way, but all the effort paid off.

The competition itself ran over two days with 1,600 competitors from all over the world competing in the bi-annual event.

Chipping Sodbury Tang Soo Do train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Chipping Sodbury School and have children and adults classes.
