Yate Town Reserves 2 Thornbury Town 3

THORNBURY came away from Lodge Road with all three points following a much-improved second half performance.

Yate dominated the early part of the game and they were awarded a penalty in the eighth minute after a Scott Macleod foul on Luke Burman.

However, goalkeeper Alex Lippiatt guessed right from Liam Pullen's spot kick, diving to his right to save the spot kick.

Yate took the lead soon after when a quick attack down the right saw the ball played into box and a low shot through a crowd of players by Sam Gilchrist hit Macleod and found the back of the net.

Thorns improved in the second period and Danny Thompson had a shot cleared off the line but on the hour mark Joe Guest almost extended Yate’s lead following a mazy run, but Lippiatt pulled off a good save to avert the danger.

Thorns equalised in the 70th minute when a corner from the right was only partially cleared to Danny Haines, who rifled home into the far corner of the net from the edge of the area.

Two minutes later Town were in front, skipper Pete Fowler heading home Danny Thompson’s cross from the right.

The lead was short lived however, Pullen evading a couple of tackles before firing low past Lippiatt.

Thorns responded in the right way and Craig Lancastle’s shot from outside the box hit Yate keeper Lewis Hughes, rebounding off the bar, whilst a minute later Luke Franklin brought out a great save from Hughes, tipping his shot over the bar.

With just four minutes left Thorns got the winner, Steve Thompson sweeping the ball out wide to brother Danny, who fired home from a tight angle, giving Hughes no chance.
