Les James League Cup Round One

Kingswood 2 Yate Town Reserves 0

YATE Town Reserves paid their second visit to Kingswood after playing them in a league match the previous week and went down by the same scoreline.

It could have been so different for the visitors if they had only taken their chances.

They had a shot cleared off the line on six minutes and ten minutes later a 25-yard drive from Luke Burman saw home keeper Chris Fox scrambling across goal as the ball went just the wrong side of the post.

A great shot across goal from Liam Pullen would possibly have beaten Fox but again it went just wide of the upright.

Anton Dowe had a good chance to put the visitors ahead but he also pulled his shot wide.

The visitors paid dearly for those missed chances and from the ensuing goal kick the long ball found its way into the Yate box and was knocked home by Paul Bleaken.

The last real chance of the half fell to Yate when a good effort from Joe Guest was well saved by Fox.

Yate were very unlucky in the 58th minute when a shot from the edge of the box by Guest struck the crossbar.

The home side had that little bit more when it came to finishing and scored a second goal on 87 minutes from a ball knocked into Gary Simmons, who swivelled in the box and fired a shot across Yate keeper Kieran Provis into the far corner of the net.
