North Leigh 2 Yate Town 1

YATE Town’s miserable September was brought to an end with another agonising defeat at North Leigh on Saturday.

Conor Ingram struck a late winner for the hosts, leaving Yate to reflect on a month that has seen them fail to pick up a win in five games, losing the last four, after going through August unbeaten.

North Leigh had just seen Stuart Hole’s opener cancelled out when former Oxford United forward Lewis Haldane glanced a header past Matt Bulman from close range in the 82nd minute.

Both teams then threw caution to the wind and it was North Leigh who profited with defender Michael Hopkins firing in a hard low centre for Ingram to gleefully clip it past a helpless Martin Horsell with two minutes left to seal a 2-1 victory.

Ingram injured himself in the process as he collided with the keeper and post in scoring.

North Leigh had opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Hole curled a free-kick over the wall into the top corner after Callum McNish was fouled just outside the Yate penalty area.

Before that, though, Yate made a lively start with both Ross Staley and Haldane having efforts on goal, while Jake Cox brought a good save out of ex-Forest Green stopper Bulman.

Visiting goalkeeper Horsell had to intervene with his head to stop North Leigh going further ahead before the break, coming out of his box to reach the ball before Morgan Williams as the Yate defence was caught out by a quickly taken free kick.

Nuno Felix and Haldane were both denied by Bulman in the second half, while Horsell saved an effort from Hole at the other end before the late drama.

The result saw North Leigh leapfrog Yate, who dropped to tenth in the table.
