LEWIS Haldane looks set to stay at Yate Town.

An unnamed club made an approach for the hot-shot striker last week but he has declared himself happy at Yate and trained with the squad this week ahead of their Southern League Division One South and West game against bottom side Bishop’s Cleeve at Lodge Road on Saturday (3pm).

Haldane turned down a move from Paulton Rovers last month and is also thought to be attracting interest from Chippenham Town, while rumours after Yate’s 3-2 defeat at Shortwood last month that he had left proved to be untrue.

Meanwhile, manager Rob Cousins is hoping to make another addition next week after putting in a seven-day approach for a player at another club.

A 2-1 defeat at North Leigh last Saturday extended Yate’s losing streak to four games in all competitions.

They will be expected to end that run when they face a Cleeve side still searching for their first win of the season, having picked up just two points and conceded 34 goals in the first nine games, but Cousins insists his side cannot afford to take them lightly.

He said: “I’ve been playing football long enough to know there is never a ‘gimme’ so we’ve got to work hard and prepare in the right way.

“At North Leigh we didn’t get the rub of the green so hopefully our luck will change a bit on Saturday.”

Bradley Abraham (thigh) should return to the squad but Joe Chandler, who was forced to sit on the bench at North Leigh after his knee flared up, is rated 50-50.

Yate are away to early league leaders Stratford Town next Tuesday night.
