Southern League Division One South & West

Yate Town 1 Bishop’s Cleeve 0

JAKE Cox scored the winning goal two minutes after coming off the bench against bottom side Bishop’s Cleeve as Yate ended a run of four straight defeats.

The Bluebells struggled to break down a side that are yet to pick up a league win this season but Cox completely changed the game when he replaced Jordan Rogers on 55 minutes, making an instant impact.

After a great build-up involving Lewis Haldane and Jordan Ricketts, Cox was in the right place to fire a low strike into the bottom corner and give Yate the lead they were searching for.

Cleeve finished the game with ten men when Harlie Price picked up his second yellow card with five minutes to go.

Yate started in their usual fashion, playing the ball out from defence and retaining possession, but without posing the visitors too many problems.

The first chance fell to Jordan Rogers, making his first appearance since Yate's draw against Taunton Town at the start of September, but he headed high and wide after a great corner from Dale Evans.

Rogers also had several shots blocked, while Evans’s left-footed effort was stopped by Cleeve goalkeeper Gavin James.

Haldane also had a great chance to open the scoring, but after cutting in from the left hand side he couldn't quite find the top corner of the net.

Despite enjoying much of the possession in the first half, Yate didn't really test James.

Haldane once again came close after the break, his curling effort hitting the post.

Once Cox broke the deadlock, Yate continued to search for more goals, with Cleeve not offering much of a threat going forward, but they were thwarted by resolute defending.

Yate will face a much different test on Tuesday night when they visit league leaders Stratford Town.
