Yate Town Reserves 1 Gala Wilton 3

AN OUTSTANDING display by goalkeeper Dan Worton could not prevent Yate from slipping to defeat against Gala Wilton.

The first half was controlled by Gala Wilton, who should have been more than 2-0 up at the break.

After nine minutes Worton made a great save from Jack James' goal bound shot, pushing the ball around the post.

The resulting corner saw Gala take the lead when Dave Wilkinson’s header struck both posts before nestling in the back of the net.

In the 25th minute Joel White struck the Yate crossbar and a minute later Worton saved again with his legs as Martin Smith went through clear on goal for the visitors.

Gala were rather fortunate with their second goal on 30 minutes when a 25-yard shot from Mike Light took a wicked deflection, sending Worton the wrong way after the keeper had positioned himself for the shot.

The young Yate side hit back in the 32nd minute when Joe Guest broke into the box and was brought down.

The referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty.

Sean Keet was given the task of taking the spot kick and sent the Gala keeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.

Yate had another good opportunity to level the score in the 39th minute but Josh Beddis blasted the ball high over the bar.

The second half never really got going with both sides conceding possession much too frequently, resulting in a lot of midfield play but no shots on goal.

The only real chance created by the home side was a shot from Beddis that flew across goal, just the wrong side of the post.

Gala scored a third goal right on 90 minutes. Dion Lee, who had come on as a substitute, fired the ball across Worton into the far corner from just inside the box, which was hard on the home side, who had battled well throughout.
