TRIBUTES continue to be paid to loyal and devoted Gloucestershire FA servant George Hoskin following the sad news of his death at the age of 79 on Monday, October 28 with his family beside him.

Mr Hoskin was the current president of the GFA, but his 40-year association with the county football organisation extended far beyond that one particular position.

In a remarkable two-decade stint he was secretary of the former Gloucestershire FA Youth Association, during which time he also experienced lengthy spells as treasurer, president and chairman, serving the committee right up until 2009.

Not content with all that, Mr Hoskin enjoyed a three-year term as GFA treasurer between 2002 and 2005, while in 2013 he was granted the honour of becoming GFA president.

He had been a member of the GFA Council too since 1974, sitting on various committees including his most recent one, the Youth and Rules Revision and League Sanction Committees.

Mr Hoskin’s funeral was scheduled to be held at Minchinhampton Parish Church on Friday, November 7 at 2pm.

A request for family flowers only was made while the collection at the service was undertaken for a designated Alzheimer’s Disease charity.

GFA chief executive David Neale said: “Throughout his life George Hoskin was dedicated and committed to youth football in Gloucestershire. He was chairman of the GFA Youth Committee for many years and a director of the association between 2002 and 2005.

“He was a respected figure and proud to be president of the Gloucestershire FA. He will be sadly missed.”
