FRAMPTON Cotterell Harriers celebrated a milestone by running their own version of the Aztec West 5K to mark the end of the successful fourth beginners’ group.
Twelve people, who were new to running, took part as well as many established members on a warm night.
Times varied from 19 to 47 minutes and everyone received a raucous reception as they achieved the personal goals they had set themselves.
The club was set up 15 months ago by Jason Bidwell and David Higenbottam under the Run England banner as a way of introducing people to running, getting fitter and enjoying the outdoor environment.
From only a few runners who turned up on the first night, it now has more than 200 members on its Facebook page, more than 50 affiliated members and lots more people who come along to sessions.
Typically around 80 people turn up for each of clubs sessions.
The success has resulted in Run England funding two more coaches in Martin Wood and Cathie Walsh.
Frampton Cotterell Harriers meet at the Crossbow, School Road, on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7pm and runs sessions for all abilities.
These include walk to runs, road runs, plus speed and hill sessions.
