THE FINALS of the annual Sodbury Tennis club tournament recently took place on a pleasantly hot autumn day.
With partnerships in the doubles competition drawn randomly, the tournament was once again as fun as it was competitive.
The first final of the day was in the the ladies doubles and that saw Caroline Marshall and Sarah Mackrill come from a break down in the first set to close out in straight sets.
The men’s final was then won by Pete Hayden and Lee Griffiths, also in straight sets, after they stole the first set in a tie-break.
Then it was time for some singles action to take place on court.
And in a repeat of the 2014 ladies final, Caroline Marshall fought back from a set down against Ann Mora to take the title once again.
In the men’s singles, Ashley Todd made up for the disappointment of finishing as runner-up in 2013 with an impressive win over Harry Coulthard, in the same week as he celebrated his birthday.
And finally, with just about enough daylight left to complete the day’s action, the mixed doubles saw Caroline Marshall, this time partnered by Matt Crouch, clean-up and complete a hat-trick of wins by taking the mixed doubles title.
As always, the event was well supported by friends and members of the Sodbury Tennis cClub and it was a treat for the spectators to enjoy not only a great day of entertaining, competitive tennis, but the added bonus of sunshine - and lots of cake.
