FORMER captain Mike Bryant wants Yate Town to rekindle their most talked about season as they fight to get out of the league rut they have found themselves in recently.

And the new signing has said the fans should not panic over the poor run the club have had.

Bryant has rejoined the Bluebells after a stint in New Zealand and will play for the club again when international clearance of the move is confirmed.

The midfielder left Yate for Auckland City FC in February this year but he chose to return to Lodge Road, despite interest from several other clubs.

If he is able to make his debut on Saturday when the Bluebells travel to North Leigh, second in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West, Bryant is determined to make an impact as the club look to stop a slump which has seen them lose four out of the last five matches.

They fought doggedly to earn a point on Tuesday night in a goal-less draw with Bishop’s Cleeve but Yate are desperate for a victory to kick-start the campaign before the crunch Christmas and New Year period.

Bryant was at the club in 2012 when they came from bottom to near the top and enjoyed a glorious FA Cup run to the first round.

Now he wants them to mirror that run this season.

Bryant said: “I think we can do something (in the league). I would not have come here otherwise.

“Hopefully we can pick up some wins through Christmas and get a run going. I remember when I was here in my first season here.

“We were bottom of the league at Christmas and had a run and just missed out on the play-offs.

“So if we can get a run like that going this season, I cannot see any reason why can can’t do something.”

Bryant said there was nothing for the fans to fear at the moment, saying: “I don’t think there is a crisis. They are still mid-table and we can build from that.

“I have always scored goals in my career so hopefully I can start scoring here and help them out. They seem to be a good team. I have not seen a lot of them yet but if we can get a few results, get a bit of confidence, then we can get back to winning ways again.”

Elsewhere at the club, summer signing Matt Villis has left Yate for Taunton Town.
