EPIC Martial Arts in Yate has only been running since September 30 2015 and already have some local champions amongst their ranks.

The youngest competing member of the club Harvey Pollard, 5, took a gold in January's interclub competition as well as a bronze in a tough category at the EPIC OPEN.

His brother Jack, 8, also won a gold in his points fighting category in the January interclub and took a silver in the EPIC Open.

Ashleigh Nelson, 12, entered the open as her first ever tournament and came away with two silver medals, losing two tough finals above her weight category! Her sister Daisy Humphreys won a bronze at the EPIC open too.

Special mentions to the other competitors who did very well: Robyn Humphreys, Corey Warren, Seb Henderson-Figg.

The instructors like to lead from the front and Assistant Instructor and Junior Coach Kam Doyle has taken 10 gold medals from 4 tournaments this year including both his categories at the British championships, making him a current British champion, 3 golds at the Watford Open Nationals, 3 golds at the Athens Challenge in Greece last month and also 2 Golds at the kwon in January.

Head coach Matt Roberts has taken a gold in the EPIC Open, winning the final 14-13 against tough opponent Matt Jones after a 13-5 semi final win. He lost to the category winner at the Watford Open Nationals and didn't compete at the British Championships.

Both of these fighters are competing in Ireland (March 4-6th) and the USA (early july) this year too amongst other places, as well as joining their students on the UK circuit.

The kids between once and twice a week at the Yate Parish Hall and some travel across to central Bristol for extra training on Thursday with instructor Matt Roberts. It's exciting times for the community as these little warriors aspire to become national competitions and some will test their mettle at the KWON championships this month.
