DARREN Edwards is deciding whether to put in an application to be Yate Town's permanant manager but hopes that whoever takes over in the role at Lodge Road will have the chance to bring in some experienced players for next season.

Yate Town are advertising the position and interim player-manager Edwards is 'considering my posiition' at the moment.

Yate have been blooding youngsters this season, but they have gone down to four defeats and drawn two matches since previous manager Craig Laird’s departure at the start of March.

Edwards said he was “a winner” and giving youngsters their chance was not sacrificing results for development.

But he added: “In the teams I have played for over the years, there have been experienced players and, when you go a goal down in a match, you want to reset the game and come back.

“We have some good young lads but we lack experience. When we concede a goal and we have gone 1-0 down, very quickly we have gone 2-0 and 3-0 down. I cannot remember one game this season where we have gone behind and won the game.”

That happened last Saturday when Yate lost 3-0 at home to Shortwood United.

Edwards added: “The lads on Saturday played really well for 30 minutes and then we conceded a goal and we fell apart like a pack of cards.

“But one thing we have got is talent. We have had a lot of lads playing their first season at this level and that is a big ask.”

Yate face three big clashes in their run-in to the end of the campaign this month in high-flying Swindon Supermarine, Banbury and Wimborne.
