ROUND Nine of the Dickie British Supersport Championship saw Yate’s Luke Hedger and his team on the back foot because the rider joined the team so late in the racing season.
For both free practice, Hedger set consistent lap times and, by the end of the second session, had closed the gap to the pole man by half a second.
In qualifying, he tried hard to set a good time but was blocked by slow riders yet managed to qualify in 12 position for the sprint race.
That sprint race saw Hedger fight back from 15th place but a mechanical fault saw him finish in 13th.
In race two, he started from tenth place and was able to stay at the back of the leading group, but as the race went on, he dropped back probably due to no grip from the rear tyre and finished in tenth.
Nevertheless, the team are working hard and there are many positives that will, hopefully, mean Hedger improves a lot more in his future in motor cycling.
