Yate Town 3 Didcot Town 2

YATE Town made it back-to-back wins with an emphatic 3-2 victory at The Jelf Stadium, despite being 2-1 down at half time.

A brace from Jack Ball and a goal from Kyle Thomas gave Yate all three points in a deserved victory.

Despite a strong start from the visitors, who themselves were on a five match league winning run before the game, Yate profited from a defensive lapse which allowed Ball to simple take the ball around the keeper and from a such an acute angle slide the ball into an empty net.

The defensive lapse down one end was repeated down the other minutes later, as Harvey Rivers making his debut for the club fails to clear the and ball and is tackled by the Didcot striker Whitehead who ran from the side of the area into a central position to score into an empty goal.

The visitors were in control at this stage of the game and Yate were punished from the penalty spot.

A superb ball over the defence caused Yate problems and an on rushing Rivers was adjudged to have taken down Didcot's Whitehead just inside the area, and with no complaints from the Yate players the referee pointed to the spot. Whitehead won the penalty and scored to the left.

Yate manager Paul Britton's second half team talk and changes to the side worked wonders.

Thomas was pushed forward and allowed more freedom to use his pace and skill to beat defender and Jack Camm was moved to right back. It didn't take long for the changes to have an influence on the outcome of the game.

Thomas beat a defender for pace to get to the ball first and with only the keeper to beat, he scored with ease.

Yate continued the second half charge and were ahead just after the 70th minute. Ball unmarked at the front post from a corner nodded the ball across goal and into the far corner.

Yate could of had their fourth a few minutes later, Thomas causing problems and his delightful lob over the keeper was unlucky to come of the outside of the post and bounce clear, a goal which surely would of put the game to bed.

The miss seem to prompt Yate into retreating and, in the final 15 minutes, saw Didcot press, and in the dying embers of the game, Harvey Rivers pulls off a match winning save to preserve the three points, palming the ball away from point blank range.
