CHIPPING Sodbury’s Giuseppe Licata shared second place in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Total Triumph Order of Merit winter medal series at Clevedon amid freezing conditions.

Licata and former Clevedon man George Ryall (Burnham and Berrow) wee runners up to Cheltenham/s Russell Berry (Broadway) who completed his fifth win of the series with a bogey free five under part 67.

Licata and Ryall were two strokes behind.

Berry made five birdies and 13 pars. He reached the turn at four under with birdies at the second, fourth, seventh and eighth. His final birdie came at the short 13th.

Licata wore both shoes for the first time since breaking his toe and is so determined to win the OOM he interrupted a family break to play. His 69 contained four birdies and a solitary bogey.

Ryall, who returned from an unsuccessful attempt to regain his European Seniors Tour card last week, matched Licata’s score with a similar haul of birdies and bogeys.

Home assistant Ashley Mansell claimed fourth on 70, one better than Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin. Filton’s Daryl Kelley took the final prize money with his level par round of 72 which included six birdies to take the birdie sweep.
