Bideford 2 Yate Town 0

YATE Town are beginning to look at the sides below them in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West after yet another fruitless afternoon as they travelled to Bideford.

The streak without a W next to the club on the results list now stretches back to 12 matches.

Last Saturday at Bideford, two early goals saw the home side pick up all three points, with Yate 2-0 down by the 18th minute.

This latest defeat sees the gap between the club and the relegation spots drop to ten points.

Wantage, one of those struggling in the relegation zone, won by 2-1 against Barnstaple last weekend and this now makes Saturday’s home game at The Jelf Stadium against AFC Totton a massive affair for the Bluebells.

The first goal last Saturday came on 11 minutes. A free kick from the right, took a wicked deflection and fall to Bideford’s Chris McGrath who had the easiest of tap-ins at the back post.

The home side’s second goal was much like the first, with set pieces causing Yate all sorts of problems.

A free kick was met by a Bideford player whose headed effort was saved well by Bluebells keeper Harvey Rivers but the save fell straight into the path of Bideford’s Sean Downing to tap home.

Yate looked dangerous down the other end and, if it was not from some great saves, it could have been a lot different at half-time.

Luke Bryan, who had a goalbound strike blocked, struck a deflected effort which was kept out by the goalkeeper’s feet.

The second half faded out with very few opportunities for either side but much to think about for Yate.
