CHIPPING Sodbury under-13 girls teamed up with Walcot girls when they attended an all-girls development festival gratefully hosted by Hornets RFC.

Chipping Sodbury were placed in a group with Clevedon, Old Bristolian’s and Cheddar.

Chipping-cot, as they were to be called, started their first game against Clevedon much the brighter, catching Clevedon on the hop with Lanne Smith running in the first try which was followed by a quick fire brace for Kasia Isherwood.

She showed great strength to burst through the Clevedon defence who could again do nothing to stop the rampaging Lara woodhouse from crossing the line minutes later.

Clevedon should have got one back from the restart only for all their hard work to be undone when the ball was dropped as the player crossed the try line.

Chipping-cot grasped the ball with gusto and worked up the pitch where Toni Northey Chamberlain added to the score count.

Clevedon again showed they had fight and stormed through a slight gap to register their first score. This was soon followed with a second after some fantastic counter rucking, Jaya Hunt finished the half in style with a prancing run from deep finishing the half 7-2.

The second half started much like the first. Chipping-cot stole a march with Hunt again showing slight of hand to collect a stray pass to run in her second, followed closely by woodhouse whose drive for the line after a sublime off load by the marauding Nelly Lord.

Great tackling from Clevedon won them the ball and the chance to increase the try count, as the game was coming to an end there was time for one more play from which Cerys Stait collected from the rear of a ruck and whilst flirting with the touch line still managed to down the ball in the corner to finish the first game 16-3.

The second game against Old Bristolian’s was a whirlwind. Chipping-cot dominated the contact area with a ferocious desire to have the ball and it paid off as Smith, Isherwood and Hunt reaped the benefits for all the hard work done by Isobel Palmer, Stait and Cooper.

The standard of tackling was outstanding by the tireless defence but it could do nothing to stem the steady flow of the increasing try count even the break did little to slow down the determined attack.

Cooper lead from the front, showing an true appetite to win by scoring a brace herself but more so by becoming provider for Mia Llewellen and Isobel Palmer to score their first tries of the day.

Llewellen then become provider for Lord to run from deep, Stait was also to benefit and score her second, the match ended with Chipping-cot winning 15-0.

The final game against Cheddar was to be the best of the day. Both teams set out the stall to be strong at the break down and it was going to be whoever blinked first.

Nno quarter was asked or given and meant for a very tight affair, and so it was.

Cheddar where the ones who took the lead with some strong rucking and great ball retention.

They drove towards the line, drawing in more players and creating the gap out wide which is where the ball went and they crossed the line to open their account.

Cheddar continued to pressurise the defence and again broke wide to double their lead.

Chipping-cot started to mount their own offensive and another mazy run from Hunt pegged back the score.

Almost from the restart, Cheddar slipped through to re-instate their two try advantage.

Angry at themselves , Chipping-cot worked hard to get back into the game and it worked as Izzy Willcox sped to the corner and score another 3-2 at the turn.

Cheddar added another score soon after the break and it meant Chipping –cot had to dig deep, the breakthrough came when Smith collected the ball and smashed her way through a tiring defence.

With the momentum, Hunt was to dance her way to the line and level the match with minutes to play.

Cheddar’s efforts to stop the wave after wave of attack could not last and Lord finished the scoring making Chipping-cot the winners by five tries to four a great match for the spectators.
