YATE Town have held ‘clear the air’ talks about their current plight in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

The Bluebells have gone from mid-table to just 11 points off the relegation zone this season and have not won a match since beating Didcot Town 3-2 at the Jelf Stadium on December 3.

With Slimbridge shocking high-flying Evesham United and winning 2-1 away on Saturday, they have leapfrogged Yate in the table.

But even before then, the club’s board and management sat down to talk through things.

Yate Town director of football Nigel Hawkins said: “We had a clear the air meeting during the week after the Shortwood game (a 2-2 draw) about the season so far and we wanted to be a lot more further forward than we are.

“I think the performance against Wantage at home (a 1-1 draw in January) was the lowest point all season. It’s not where we want to be.”

Manager Paul Britton has emphasised that the squad is young and he is building towards next season.

But some fresh blood may be coming to the club this week in time for Saturday’s clash at home to mid-table Bishops Cleeve.

“The club is still in the direction we want to go but going down is a danger,” added Hawkins.

“Three points on Saturday will make a massive difference. It’s in our hands at the moment.”
