Buckland Athletic 3 Chipping Sodbury Town 2

AFTER last week’s result at Melksham, where Sodbury earned a very good point for their efforts, spirits were high that they could get a result away at fourth placed Buckland although only two weeks previous, they’d been on the wrong end of a 2-1 result in the Les Phillips Cup.

It was Buckland who took the lead around nine minutes into the game when a shot was not dealt with by the keeper Griffiths who could only scramble the ball away and it was smashed high into the net by an onrushing forward.

Sodbury managed to get back into the game and had a few very good chances, the best of which fell to Dowdell who managed to hit his effort wide when through one on one with the keeper.

Sodbury fought well in the 2nd half and were awarded a penalty kick 17mins into the second half which Joe White calmly scored sending the keeper the wrong way to draw Sodbury level.

A substitution was made shortly afterwards seeing Dave Sims make a return to the team and his first piece of action saw him side footing a cross from White into the back of the Buckland net to give Sodbury a lead.

Sodbury battled hard but were undone by a nice little attack which saw Buckland breaking through the defence and levelling the scores.

Shortly afterwards a penalty was awarded to Buckland but Griffiths was on hand to make his second penalty save for Sodbury and steering the ball away from goal and Sodbury held out.

However, the sucker punch came with four minutes to go when Buckland grabbed what proved to be the winner.

Even after they had scored, Dowdell did manage to hit the cross bar with a long range strike but this wasn’t to be Sodbury’s day and they narrowly missed out on what had been a close encounter.
