YATE TOWN manager Paul Britton will be looking to strengthen his squad in the coming months to prepare for another assault on the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West from September.

The Bluebells ended their Easter campaign with four points from six after a victory at Wimborne Town on Saturday and a draw on Bank Holiday Monday with Larkhall Athletic at the Jelf Stadium.

Britton said the coming weeks were ‘all about retaining and recruitment’. He added: “There will be lots of conversations this week and we have been building for next season for a while.

“It is definitely about that. We need to strengthen, we know that and we know which areas we need to strengthen in and that is our objective over the summer.

“We have got a few targets and we know which positions we need to work on but we have got a core and we want to keep that core which will be the focus of our attention in the coming weeks.”

Before he can do that, Britton still has two matches to play, starting with this weekend’s trip to Barnstaple.

But he hopes Yate do not play the same Jekyll and Hyde football that has haunted them a few times in the past weeks when they have been on a good run.

After beating Wimborne 3-0 away on Saturday, they went 2-0 up against Larkhall at home before the visitors drew level.

Britton said of the Larkhall game: “We are disappointed at the first goal as it was clearly offside and the officials have acknowledged they have made a mistake which frustrates you.

“We felt we did not do ourselves justice in the first half and changed things around so that we came out in the second-half and started really brightly.

“We got the two goals – Jack Ball scored again – and until the controversial goal, there is only one team which is going to win the game.

“Then we have allowed that to affect us, which is the story of our season.

“There was lack of communication but they have dug in at the end and to take four points over Easter, we would have taken that before the weekend.”
