Stuart Canvas Gloucesterwshire Cup

Chipping Sodbury v Knowle

CHIPPING Sodbury are into the hat for the quarter-finals of the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Cup thanks to a fine six-wicket victory away to Knowle.

The home side, who lost the toss on a rainy afternoon, were reduced to 141 all out, and in reply Sodbury eased to their target in just under 32 overs.

The result was a welcome boost after a disappointing seven-wicket reverse the previous day away to WEPL Gloucester Division high-flyers Stroud.

Skipper Jamie Rendell top scored as the visitors were restricted to 168 ahead of Stroud taking their time to complete the win, in 40.1 overs.

Sodbury 2nds came up 38 runs short at home to Poulton in Division Two of the Gloucestershire County League.

Rob Mozelewski (5-37 from nine) and Jarrod Campling (3-21 from 8.4) pegged the visitors back to 232.

Sodbury, in reply, were in good shape at 107-1 with Lee Walters (59) and Jerry Swatton (38) going well. But wickets began to tumble at regular intervals and Poulton eventually banked the points with a bit to spare.

It was a happier day for Sodbury 3rds who romped in by 164 runs away to Brislington 3rds in Division Seven of the Bristol & District League.

Teenager Ed Holden (45 not) and opener Mike Pearson (42) laid a good platform for the visitors before Darren Bell came to the wicket and crashed a tremendous unbeaten 46 from only 22 balls (two fours, four sixes) to lift his side to 267-7.

Bell then made his mark with the ball, capturing 4-25 from seven, while Charlie Walker also produced a devastating spell of 3-23 from five as Bris wilted to 103 all out.

Sodbury 4ths, though, were defeated by 108 runs at home by Midsomer Norton Methodists in Division 11, Neil Barrett left high and dry on 32 not out.
