PRINCE Harry took to the field on June 5 for the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup in order to raise funds for his AIDS charity.

Under a blistering Singaporean sun, Harry put on a great performance for the crowd of over 300, contributing two goals to ISPS Handa’s 5-2 win over St. Regis.

Playing at the Singapore Polo Club, Harry followed in the footsteps of many royals before him; with the club having seen the patronage of Edward VIII, The Duke of Edinburgh and the present Prince of Wales.

Other famous faces joined in the charity effort. Joanne Froggatt, the much-loved Anna from Downton Abbey, threw in the ball, and Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan presented the trophy.

Moving all around the world, the Sentebale event, in partnership with the British luxury whisky Royal Salute, has raised over £4.5 million during the last seven years.

The money goes towards providing care, education and critical psychosocial support to children and adolescents living with HIV in Southern Africa, where the burden of the HIV epidemic remains.

At the post-tournament dinner, Prince Harry spoke about Sentebale’s latest work, the ‘Let Youth Lead’ programme.

“Through youth-led campaigning, training and advocacy, the initiative allows young people affected by HIV/AIDS to be heard,” Harry said.

“Young people know what works for them and their friends, so we must listen and take note.”

Princess Diana, a key campaigner for changing attitudes towards people with AIDS, would be proud of her son.
