CHIPPING Sodbury seconds are up to fifth thanks to an excellent 11-run victory away to Stone in Division Two of the Gloucestershire County League.

Former skipper Jerry Swatton (66 not out) and Simon Vooght (40) top scored in a total of 234-6 boosted by the home side bowling 35 wides.

Sodbury fared even worse in that department, sending down an eye-watering 48 wides, but still held on to win, Vooght, Darren Bell and Tom Clay all capturing two wickets apiece.

It was a tough day for Sodbury’s first team who succumbed by six wickets at home to Tewkesbury in the West of England Premier League's Gloucestershire division.

Runs from tailenders Jarrod Campling (33) and Dan Brown (28 not) helped Sodbury limp to 176-9 which proved to be well within range for the visitors.

Sodbury thirds, though, emerged 53-run home victors against Gordano Valley in Division Seven of the Bristol and District League.

Teenager Jake Kirkham top scored with a superb 80, supported by Charlie Ross (37), as Sodbury reached 266-6 from their 45.

Ed Holden, another youngster making big strides this season, then struck with the ball, returning 3-27 from six as the North Somerset visitors were pegged back after an encouraging start.

In Division 11, meanwhile, Sodbury fourths nailed down their second victory of the summer, trumping opposition Frenchay thirds by six wickets.

Aaron Campbell (2-17) and Neil Barrett (2-12) led the charge with the ball, backed by Chris Young 91-18 from eight) as Frenchay were dismissed for 133.

Opener Barrett (38) and Jamie Pearson (41) then led the charge for Chipping Sodbury who got over the line with more than 11 overs to spare.
