Yate 1st Team 3-2 Ross on Wye 1st Team

YATE hosted Ross on Wye hoping to reverse their recent run of defeats.

The hosts started the faster and made good early use of their possession.

A penalty corner for Yate was first saved by the Ross goalie but Matt Downs was on hand to poke in the rebound from close range.

Yate then sat back and squandered their possession which allowed Ross to dominate the next 20 minutes of play.

Ross then scored two goals as the Yate defence was eventually breached first by a well worked attack and then by a lucky deflection that evaded the Yate keeper and defender.

The hosts struggled to get their passing game to work but one rare move out of defence found Danny Pearce near the top of the Ross D and Pearce rounded the last defender and smashed his reverse stick shot high into the net.

The half ended with the score two all.

In the second half a similar pattern began to emerge with Yate defending well but gifting possession to Ross.

Thankfully the Yate defence of Rob Austen and Rob Child, combined age 110 years, held out and a strong attack down the Yate right wing saw a rejuvenated Mark Harris deflect Dom Chambers pass towards goal and Anthony Brown followed up to score his first goal for Yate.

Ross continued to attack but Yate held firm until the final whistle.

Yate’s win lifted them to ninth in the table and kept Ross on Wye firmly below them.
