CHIPPING Sodbury Town Football Club claimed a comfortable home victory at home to Clevedon Town last Tuesday.

The first half was pretty un-eventful, which from Sods perspective was to be expected after the effort put in Saturday.

There was only a few clear-cut chances in the first half. Lewis Powell, completed some great individual work and got his shot off from the edge of the box pulling a great save out of the Clevedon keeper.

At the other end, Clevedon’s Saikou Janneh had a couple of chances, a shot from the edge of the box that went straight at keeper Sam Burgess, who saved comfortably, and a flicked header from a Clevedon corner that went just over the bar.

Clevedon came out the stronger team in the second half following a change of formation.

However, after the first ten minutes the Sods got on top and started to create chances with Powell just missing out on getting on the end of a great cross for a tap in, and then Jake Thomas hit the inside of the post from a free kick on the edge of the box and was unfortunate to see the ball go across goal and back out.

Thomas did not have to wait long though as in the 76th minute he opened the scoring.

Great work from Liam Pullen, holding the ball in the Clevedon box and slipping in Tom Fry, who made a great run and squared the ball across the goal to Thomas who drove the ball into the net.

Thomas was to get a second only three minutes later, when he pressed well and robbed Clevedon’s defence of the ball.

Have claimed possession he ran through and placed the ball past the Clevedon keeper with great composure.

The game was wrapped up late on when Dan Dempsey finished excellently through a crowd of players after a free kick from Liam Pullen had rebounded off of the bar.

A win for Sodbury means they remain in 13th place.

Unfortunately, Sodbury’s momentum was halted over the Easter weekend with the fixture against Cadbury Heath falling foul to the weather.
