Thornbury Running Club's Rob Hopkins and Rosina Rowland featured in two epic races in Devon.

Rob took part in the Devon Coast to Coast, a non-stop 117-mile race from Wembury on the South Coast to North of Exmoor where it meets the sea in Lynmouth, between March 31 – April 1. He enjoyed the outing despite some navigation errors at the 109-mile mark and finding himself off course in a marshy bog. His finishing time was 43 hours 58 minutes, finishing in 33rd place.

Rosina was racing in the Endurancelife Exmoor Ultra last Saturday, a 33-mile race with testing climbs totalling 2,000m many of them on exposed cliff sections. Heavy rain, mist and mud added to the difficulty, but Rosina battled on to finish 57th overall and 1st Vet Woman in just over eight hours.

Henry Orna and Neil Roff took part in Taunton Marathon last Sunday. Henry produced a fantastic run to finish 24th overall and Neil ran 22 minutes quicker than he managed in the same race a year ago.

Alongside the marathon in Taunton, there was a Half Marathon, and Magda Johnson and Rachel Murphy ran the same time of 2 hours 28:40 mins in 953rd and 954th place.

Lizzie Williams was the lone Thornbury runner in the Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon and finished 212nd overall.

The second race in this year’s Thornbury RC 10k road race running championship took place last Sunday with Dylan Roberts in an fourth place overall in 47:47 mins. First woman was Joanne Plumbley in 14th overall.

Carina Cobb took part in her first race at the Railway River Run on Sunday, a 6k race along the banks of the Avon. Carina finished 42nd in a time of 51:10 mins.

Rounding up a busy week of racing for Thornbury’s runners are Saturday’s parkrun results. Kevin Arnold was in Lancaster and ran 24:19 mins. In Chipping Sodbury, Kevin Wood’s finishing time was 23:13 mins, followed by Richard Jackson 24:56 mins, David Palmer 27:16 mins and Anne Palmer 33:07 mins.
