CHIPPING Sodbury made it two in a row thanks to a fine 52-run home win over Cam in Gloucestershire County League Division One which featured a career-best 93 from Jake Reed.

The opener batted with steely determination and poise, dominating a total of 243-9 after Sodbury won the toss and elected to bat.

There were also useful contributions from fellow opener James Luscombe (28) and Tom Makepeace (37) plus an aggressive late unbeaten 27 from Josh Morris.

In reply, Cam came up short as seamers Mason Poole (4-23) and Ben Waldron (2-43, both from nine) made inroads while there was a return of 3-47 from spinning skipper Jamie Rendell.

Sodbury 2nds are still looking for their first win after succumbing by 51 runs in a low-scoring encounter at Gloucester AIW Sports.

Richard Wood (3-17), Jay Penfold (3-30) and Tom Clay (2-17) all found a testing line and length as the home side battled to 143.

But Sodbury found the conditions equally challenging, sliding to 27-6 before eventually being dismissed for 92.

Sodbury 3rds, though, are off the mark in Division Seven of the Bristol & District League courtesy of a fine 26-win triumph away to Whitchurch 2nds.

Batting star of the show for the visitors was opener Tom Febry who compiled a terrific unbeaten 105 off 137 balls (11 fours, one six) in a total of 226-9.

Reece Packer (4-36), Mike Pearson (3-48) and Eddie Holden (2-44) then combined to ensure Whitchurch finished short of their target.

Sodbury 4ths, meanwhile, were edged out by 41 runs at home to Bradley Stoke 4ths in Division 15.

Isaac Havard (3-51), Rob Higgs (2-12) and Matt Walters (2-45) made inroads with the ball, well supported by Harry Phillips (1-20 from eight) as the visitors totalled 216.

Sodbury were going well at 115-1 through openers Neil Barrett (47) and James Millett (36) before a flurry of wickets fell, but Havard batted with grit to finish unbeaten on 24 and prevent Bradley Stoke from banking maximum points.
