CHIPPING Sodbury are up to fourth in Division One of the Gloucestershire County League thanks to an impressive 122-run home victory against Westbury-on-Severn which featured a patient unbeaten 83 from Jake Reed.

The opener faced 113 balls, and struck seven fours and a six as he anchored the home side’s innings, Mason Poole thumping a late lusty 58 off 47 deliveries as their side eventually totalled 235-8.

Westbury wickets then fell regularly, Jarrod Campling (3-36) leading the charge while there were also two wickets apiece for Jamie Rendell and Poole plus fine opening spells from Ben Waldron (1-16 from nine) and Josh Morris (1-18 from seven).

Sodbury 2nds are still looking for a first success in Division Two following a six-wicket reverse at Ullenwood Bharat.

Simon Vooght top scored on 33 in the visitors’ disappointing challenge of 122 which proved to be well within range for Ullenwood.

Sodbury 3rds battled hard in a 19-run home setback against St George Valley in Division Seven of the Bristol & District League.

The visitors’ 217-3 owed everything to Joe Eizenberg’s unbeaten 135, skipper Charlie Walker taking 2-21.

Sodbury then came up just short despite an excellent 80 from opener Mark Graham at the top of the order and Jake Havard’s 41.

There was a first win of the campaign, though, for Sodbury 4ths who emerged 66-run victors away to Hampset 3rds.

Opener Jamie Pearson’s career-best unbeaten 75, along with 42 not out from Chris Young, saw Sodbury reach 167-3 from their 40 overs.

Jack Banks (4-26) then led the Sodbury charge with the ball, backed up by Pearson (2-12) and Eddie Walters (2-19) while Young produced a terrific spell of eight overs for eight runs.
