CHIPPING Sodbury continued their fine run of results with a comfortable six-wicket home victory against Redmarley to remain third in Division One of the Gloucestershire County League.

The home side won the toss and managed to reduce their visitors to 152 all out with another disciplined bowling performance.

Opening bowlers Josh Morris (2-17) and Ben Waldron (0-22, both from nine) set the tone with Jarrod Campling (4-40, also from nine) plus spinners Nick Wake (3-37) and skipper Jamie Rendell (1-31) also weighing in as Redmarley were made to battle every step of the way.

Sodbury’s reply was then dominated by Jason Thompson who marked his senior debut with an unbeaten 89 from 119 balls (13 fours, one six), receiving support from Tom Makepeace (28) as maximum points were banked.

It was a good day too for Sodbury seconds who made it two in a row with a four-wicket victory away to Cranham to move off the bottom of Division Two.

Spinner Dan Brown (5-45) shone as the home side slipped to 158 all out, unable to make progress as Sodbury kept the pressure on throughout with Richard Wood (1-24), skipper Jay Penfold (0-18, both from nine) and Tom Clay (2-33) also making inroads.

The visitors’ reply got off to a poor start at 32-4 but Lee Walters (48) and Jake Havard (33) steadied the ship while Wood’s unbeaten 28 helped wrap up another victory.

Sodbury thirds, though, were unable to complete a clean sweep as they went down by 116 runs at home to Hanham seconds in Division Seven of the Bristol and District League.

There were two wickets each for Isaac Havard and Rob Higgs as Hanham reached 223-6 but the target was out of reach as Sodbury slipped to 107 all out, skipper Mike Pearson (31) top scoring.

Sodbury fourths were left without a game when scheduled opponents Hallen seconds could not raise a side.
