Globe Sports WEPL Bristol & Somerset 1st XI: Winterbourne (131) lost to Bedminster (307-6) by 176 runs

BOTTOM side Winterbourne were on the wrong end of a thrashing on Saturday as their relegation fears increased.

After being put into bat, Bedminster powered their way past the 300 mark before rolling Winterbourne over with the ball, with all-rounder James Carter the star of the show.

Bedminster’s opening batsman put on 62 for the first wicket, before Gareth Elphick departed for 47 off 46 balls.

Fellow opener George Brimble (42) shared 90 with former Gloucestershire batsman Rob Cunliffe, who made 53, but it was Carter who did the damage with 96 not out off 41 balls, including an incredible ten sixes.

James Williams had the best bowling figures with 2-38 off nine overs but the rest were expensive, although Adam Moore and Matt Crane also picked up two wickets apiece.

Winterbourne made a decent start with the bat and opening batsmen Keith Ford and Steve Paul bettered Bedminster’s first wicket stand by putting on 64.

However, Carter removed Ford for 34 and then Mark Frost for two to spark a collapse, with Paul’s dismissal on 34 leaving Winterbourne on 75-3.

Jack Dempsey stuck around with 24 and was the last man out, another victim of Carter (3-23), as Winterbourne were bowled out for 131.
