YATE TOWN have re-signed Joe White on loan from Bristol Rovers.
The 19-year-old former Brimsham Green School pupil was a popular figure during his three month loan spell with the club last season and bolsters manager Dave Mogg’s attacking options.
With striker Dave Pearse unavailable for a few weeks and fears that Ashley Derrick suffered a serious injury in Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at Thatcham Town, White could be in line to start up front at Windsor & Eton on Saturday.
Former Winterbourne United midfielder Marc Hughes has also signed but Tom Webb is set to return to Gloucester City after a brief loan spell.
Meanwhile, Mogg has praised midfielder Sam Duggan after he followed up his winner against AFC Hayes in the opening Zamaretto League Division One South and West game with another goal at Thatcham.
Mogg said: “The boy’s a talent, if he’s encourage in the right way he’ll develop into a decent player. He’s been a successful signing.”
Mogg blamed defensive errors for the defeat at Thatcham.
He said: “Two errors for the first two goals cost us big time. We gradually got into the game then conceded a soft goal.
“I did warn them at half time that most goals are conceded because of errors - the goal we scored was a mistake by their centre back. For the first 20 minutes I saw an improvement, then an error cost us a goal and we were chasing the game.”
Duggan converted Zayne Simpson’s cross just before half-time after Danny Keen had given Thatcham the lead.
After Tom Warren failed to control a bouncing ball, Mario Nurse fired past Lee Matthews to put Thatcham ahead again early in the second half.
Thatcham scored their third 12 minutes from time through Stephen Brown.
It was a different story three days earlier as Yate won in bizarre circumstances .
Duggan scored direct from a corner in the 37th minute despite question marks over whether it crossed the line.
Yate we were indebted to a superb penalty save by Lee Matthews, who dived to his left to keep out Danilson Vicente’s spot kick midway through the second half.
The visitors searched hard for an equaliser but Yate defended well to secure the victory.
Mogg said: “I was pleased to get off with a win. I didn’t think we played very well but we defended well and stuck at it after getting a goal in front.”
Yate face a difficult trip this Saturday when they take on Windsor & Eton, who have won their first two games and narrowly missed out on promotion in the play-offs last season after finishing second.
“They’re one of the fancied teams but we have to stand up and be counted,” said Mogg.
“Thatcham were fancied and we gave as good as we got, but our downfall was two errors.”
Yate take on North Leigh at Lodge Road next Tuesday (7.45pm).
