Football: Mogg targets win over unbeaten leaders Windsor & Eton

YATE TOWN manager Dave Mogg watched his side record their third successive home win on Tuesday night - and then set his sights on ending the only unbeaten league record in the country at Southern League level or higher.

A Mark Reynolds penalty and goals from Edd Vahid, Sam Duggan and Adie Adams helped Yate sweep Thatcham aside 4-2.

Lodge Road has become something of a fortress in recent weeks with Yate winning five of their last six games there, including fine victories over promotion-chasing Bridgwater Town and AFC Totton, but they face the biggest test of all on Saturday when league leaders Windsor and Eton come to town (3pm).

With 22 wins and seven draws from 29 games played, Windsor appear to be running away with the title but Mogg insists his side have nothing to fear.

He said: “At the moment we’re in decent form so everyone is looking forward to it.

“It’s a big thing hanging over them, they’ve done fantastically well and we are the next test for them. If we make mistakes we will get punished but we’ve got no reason to fear them.

“We lost 2-1 up there in a close game and since then they have progressed and we have gradually improved, so hopefully it will be a good contest and at the end we will see where we are.

“The only team that frighten me is us because you don’t know what team will turn up. Will it be the one that fancies it or the naive one that shows inexperience?”

Jon McAlinden has returned to full fitness and is in contention to start on Saturday, but striker Russ Church (groin) and midfielder Matt Hale (work commitments) are doubtful.

However, Mogg says he is happy with the squad at his disposal after being without those three key men in the win over Thatcham and has not given up on a late run for the play-offs.

He said: “Adie Adams was fantastic up front and scored the goal he deserved and Mark Reynolds could have had a hat-trick so I’ve got plenty of attacking options.

“Sam Duggan took his goal well and Edd Vahid scored a terrific goal so everything is looking good, we’ve just got to keep plugging away and improving.

“If we win our games in hand or win the bigger games we could claw our way back. We’re still aiming to get in the play-offs so it’s all to play for.

“I thought we still made errors but if we can cut those out, play in the right areas and the players take on board what we keep onto them then we will improve.

“We have improved but the next couple of games will be a test of where we are at the moment.”

Yate visit second placed AFC Totton on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
