YATE TOWN lost to a promotion-chasing side for the third time in a week, defeated by the odd goal in five at VTFC.

Kevin Gibbens scored with a lob from 25 yards to give the home side the lead on four minutes and Marvin McLean stabbed in their second 30 minutes later.

Defender Grant Brown, called up from the Yate’s reserves, halved the deficit with a header on 63 minutes but Gibbens completed his brace one minute later.

Tom Warren scored from a cross with 18 minutes left to set up a tense finish but VT held on to record their sixth win in a row.

Yate visit North Leigh on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
