Gloucester Premier: Old Colstonians 14 Frampton Cotterell 29


DEAN MORSNER scored a hat-trick of tries as Frampton Cotterell beat local rivals Old Colstonians.

After Frampton gave a penalty away Old C’s claimed the first points on the board.

Frampton answered with three points of their own just two minutes later by the sure footed Matt Lawrence.

After another penalty, the home side took the points.

Frampton upped their game and after three scrummages on their opponents’ 5m line No8 Morsner went over to score his and Frampton’s first try, with Lawrence converting.

Frampton continued to dominate up front and a succession of phases saw Morsner crash over for his second try. Lawrence again was successful with the conversion.

Frampton were caught napping early in the second half when the home side took a very quick lineout and went over to score their first and only try of the game, but they were unsuccessful with the conversion.

Old C’s then kicked another penalty to close the gap.

Frampton capitalised with another try when the home side were reduced to 14 men, this time from Lawrence, but his conversion was a little short of the mark.

Replacement Matt Jones, found himself in the sin bin minutes after coming on to the field and prop Smith soon followed as Frampton went down to 13 men.

With another great scrum from the pack, Morsner peeled off the back to score his third try late on. Lawrence safely converted.

Old Colstonians 13 Frampton Cotterell 2nd XV 12

Frampton were unlucky in this local encounter and left it too late to raise their game.

Old C’s claimed the first points, going over for the try but missing the conversion.

After captain, Gary Plant, left the field with a groin injury, Mark Chadwick gave more strength to the pack with lock Adams moving to No8.

Old C’s then claimed their second try but again missed the conversion.

Frampton replied with a try of their own with No8 Adams powering over. Robbins was successful with the conversion.

The home side extended their lead with a penalty just before half-time.

Frampton upped their game in the second half. After some great mauling from Frampton they found themselves just five metres from the try line.

With a scrum awarded Godfrey darted over for Frampton’s second try. Robbins was successful with the conversion.

Frampton were unlucky not to come away with the win as some late phases saw them press the Old C’s back on their line .

The last five minutes proved to be nailbiting as Frampton strived to keep the ball alive to get the score but to no avail.

Frampton Cotterell 3rd XV 21 Whitehall 14

The strength and experience of Frampton overcome a good Whitehall team.

Whitehall started the better of the two sides and after scoring two tries, found themselves 14-3 up midway through the first half.

Frampton then upped their game and proved too much for their opponents.

Tries were scored by centre Mike Weaver, scrum half Andy Pullin and No 8 Ricky Shepherd.

Weaver added a penalty and flyhalf Lawrence kicked a drop goal.

Great performances were had by Weaves, Wayne Kay and Carl Groves.
