YATE TOWN celebrated their first league win of the season at the 13th attempt after a late goal by Neikell Plummer at Taunton’s Wordsworth Drive.

The Bluebells were pegged back twice after going in front in a ding-dong battle, but secured the three points to end their unwanted record as the only team in the country at step four level or higher not to win a league match.

Adie Adams gave Yate a third minute lead when he was left with the easiest of tap-ins after an incisive attack down the left.

Taunton struck back straight away, Josh Dempsey being forced to sprawl to his left to push behind a shot from Craig Veal.

Edd Vahid and Neikell Plummer both had chances to stretch Yate’s lead but Taunton levelled against the run of play after 21 minutes through a glorious strike by Danny Lane.

Yate regained the lead seven minutes before the interval when Matt Groves was allowed to jink his way through a static home defence and clip the ball into the top corner of Chris Astley’s net.

Jon Vance was inches away from equalising with a delightful curling free-kick early in the second period.

Taunton grabbed their second on 64 minutes. After Andy Butler was crudely chopped down by Mark Badman, Dempsey ill-advisedly came for Vance’s deep free-kick, and was beaten comfortably to the ball by Veal.

But, with just 12 minutes remaining, Yate took the lead for the third and final time, Plummer deftly heading home a cross from the right to secure the points.

The victory moved Yate up one place to 19th. Rob Cousins’ side travel to Somerset again on Saturday when they take on Tiverton.
