Replacing your boiler with Berriman Heating & Plumbing
Nowadays, with the price of gas ever rising, many people are replacing their old boilers with one of the modern, cheaper to run, more environmentally friendly boilers.
As from 2005 all boilers installed in U.K. have had to be high efficiency Condensing boilers. If you would like some help with understanding some of the terms used to describe today's boilers, please go to the Things you need to know about when replacing your boiler. section of this website.
We only install boilers in the SEDBUK band A (the highest efficiency band available).
When you invite us to give you a quotation for a new boiler we will come to your home and discuss your requirements ~ The choice of model and the siting of a condensing boiler can be a complicated matter and we will take time to talk this through with you and answer any questions you have. We will also tell you about any other measures which could help reduce your future gas bills

You will then receive a written quotation clearly detailing the work we will carry out together with any options which we may have discussed.
Things you need to know about when replacing your gas boiler.
There are three different types of boiler now available in Britain:-
1) Condensing Combi Boilers By far the most popular type of boiler. A combi does away with water storage tanks, header tanks and hot water storage tanks. It produces hot water on demand and of course central heating. Very popular due to thier low running costs.
2) Condensing Regular Boilers (sometimes called 'heat only' boilers). These are the next most popular type. These provide central heating and hot water. The hot water is usually stored in a hot water tank (cylinder) in your airing cupboard where often are found various valves and pumps associated with the system.
3) Condensing System Boilers These provide heating and hot water. The hot water is usually stored in a hot water tank (cylinder) in your airing cupboard. It differs from the Regular boiler because it does away with the need for a 'header tank' at high level and has the Circulating Pump located within the boiler casing.

What else do I need to know about todays condensing boilers?.
1) They produce a waste product called condense water. To deal with this your new boiler has to be connected to an existing waste pipe or drain or a small specially dug 'soak-away'.
2) They produce a much more visible 'Plume' of discharge from the flue outlet terminal. This could sometimes cause nuisance so more attention has to be paid to the location of this. But there are many new ways of overcoming problems in this area.
3) Condensing boilers will not tolerate being connected to a system which is dirty inside. ItÂ?s important that your heating/hot water system is flushed and cleaned before when fitting a new boiler and an anti corrosion fluid (inhibitor) must be added to the system.
4) There are minimum requirements for the heating controls as well. You must have a minimum of a Room Thermostat and a Timer by law. Thermostatic radiator valves (rad-stats) are also highly recommended. Larger homes are required to have separate control 'zones' for upstairs and downstairs.

Having a new boiler installed can be expensive but if your existing boiler is older than 10 years, replacing it with a condensing boiler will have a dramatic effect on reducing your gas bills
Richard Berriman is always available to answer your questions & help clarify any matters. He is available for a free of charge survey and quotation for your requirements.
today's high efficiency condensing boilers convert more than 90% of fuel into useful heat, compared with only 55% with many old boilers. Put another way, for every £1 worth of gas you pay for, you now get over 90pence worth of useful heat compared to only 55pence worth on many old boilers
