THE Wotton Concert Series continued on Saturday at St Mary’s Church,Wotton ,with a varied and interesting Baroque programme, featuring a good helping of J.S.Bach’s orchestral and choral works.
The players were assembled by Ben Hoffnung, (who also conducted and played Timpani!) as a 21 piece orchestra (Rinaldo Consort) to include soloists in the 2 concertos for wind instruments, one of which was by J.F.Fasch, a contemporary of Bach.
The excellent Alastair Ross not only played continuo in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No1, but also was soloist in the D minor Toccata & Fugue on St Mary’s superb organ .
The Rinaldo Choir performed 2 Cantatas (BWV 118 & 31) , a brief Motet and Wachtet Auf (BWV 140), the acoustics of St Mary’s giving a marvellous lift to their voices and orchestra.
