THERE was standing room only in St Mary’s Church, Almondsbury for a joint concert between Dursley Male Voice Choir and Voices Xtreme, the community children’s choir in Almondsbury, on Saturday, March 8.

The Dursley Male Choir was founded by a group of enthusiastic singers in 1978 and has grown with up to 70 performing at any one time. The Choir commenced the evening with a variety of popular songs.

Voiced Xtreme , a choir set up only a year ago, consisting of children from Almondsbury and surrounding areas, performed several songs conducted by Ceri Dash. Their repertoire included songs from the shows, such as ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’, ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and ‘My Favourite Things’ as well as some favourites such as ‘What Shall we do with the Drunken Sailor’. Some of the children sang solos which they executed with perfection.

One of the highlights of the evening was the combination of both choirs joining together to perform ‘You Raise Me Up’ and ‘Do You Hear the People Sing’. They performed the songs beautifully and it was lovely to hear the children’s voices contrasting with the men’s voices.

Another highlight was when Mrs Dash led both choirs and entire audience in song with a fun Gospel medley. The concert raised around £700 for St Mary’s Church Fabric Fund.

If your child enjoys singing, please contact Ceri Dash on voices.xtreme@googlemail.com for information about joining the children’s choir.
