THREE talented young musicians from Thornbury are hoping that a gig with some of the biggest names in punk will give them the boost in the music industry they have been waiting for.

Callum Archer (14, vocals and guitar), James Ling (15, lead guitar), and Ben Bishop (15, bass and backing vocals) are all year 10 pupils at The Castle School in Thornbury, and together with Will Squier (15, on drums), who lives in Bristol, they make up the band 'UK's Lowest'.

On Saturday, May 3 they take to the stage at the prestigious O2 Academy in Bristol where they share the bill with the Buzzcocks, Anti Nowhere League,The Mob, Ed Tudor Pole and GBH - all bands with a formidable pedigree on the UK punk scene.

“We started the band about a year ago with the intention to play some gigs and as something to invest our time in," said Ben.

"However, we soon took a more dedicated interest in the band as we started to write our own material and improve both as a band and as individual musicians. We played our first gig last May and it all went uphill from there! We were spotted by a local promoter at our second gig who put us on some more punk-based bills. Then in November we opened for the UK Subs and Demob and recorded an album whichhas just been released.

“We are also set to play with both the Buzzcocks and Penetration, so we have started to gain recognition within the local punk scene. In the future we plan to share and perform our music to as many people as possible and even hope to tour and get the chance to play abroad."

And how does Ben feel about playing with the Buzzcocks?

“It’s going to be brilliant. It’s a really huge gig and there are going to be loads of other great bands playing aswell, especially GBH”

“In the past our gigs have mainly been at the Fleece and the Exchange.”

UK's Lowest are playing at the Rise-up-Rise event at Bristol's O2 Academy on May 2. For tickets and more details, please visit www.o2academybristol.co.uk
