A WONDERFUL choral concert is scheduled is to take place at Cheltenham Town Hall this month when The Cotswold Male Voice Choir will be celebrating its 65th Anniversary with special guests The Sydney Welsh Choir

The Sydney Welsh are on a concert tour of Ireland, Wales and England – but Cheltenham will be their only venue in England apart from London.

There will be a varied programme of music by both choirs including popular ballads, hits from the shows and, of course, some stirring Welsh hymns! For anyone who enjoys choral music this isn’t a night to be missed and with around 90 choristers on stage for the finale it will be a huge sound.

The Sydney Welsh was formed following the 1978 Wales rugby tour to Australia: “whose team made an immediate impact with their singing at the post-match celebrations!” The 1970s were, of course, a golden era for Welsh rugby and in the pre-professional era there was great camaraderie between competing teams and their supporters. The Welsh after-match singing was legendary. So it’s very appropriate that the concert will be in aid of Wooden Spoon – “The Children’s Charity of Rugby”.

Last year’s concert at the Town Hall was a sell-out and raised £6,500 for the Wooden Spoon charity which was put towards playground equipment at Belmont Special School in Cheltenham.

Tickets for the event on Saturday, September 27 are available at £12 from 0844 576 2210 or www.cheltenhamtownhall.org.uk
