ON paper, Happy Days should work as a musical. Great costumes, cute American family, a fun fifties ethos and a talented cast of singers and actors headed up by Cheryl Baker, Ben Freeman and Heidi Range. But somehow this new show, which only launched in February, just doesn’t quite stack up and unfortunately, it’s mainly down to a poor script.

The three-week 'Shakespeare Unplugged' festival opens in Bath on Saturday (March 1) as the work of the Bard is celebrated in a wide range of performances at the egg theatre and other venues across the city. New adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, specially commissioned new work and fascinating insights into the contemporary relevance of his writing, will feature in live performances and events for young children, teenagers and adults.

IT’S a long time since I’ve sung along to ‘If I were a Rich Man’ when ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ came on the TV, but the prospect of watching Paul Michael Glaser in Craig Revel Horwood’s acclaimed version of the hit musical was certainly enough to tempt me out on a chilly November night.
