IT’S always a bonus when you get a great support act at a concert, but the announcement that The Pretty Reckless were to support Fall Out Boy at their Arena gig in Cardiff was just the icing on the cake for the thousands of Gloucestershire fans who made the journey across the Severn on Saturday night.
The lead singer for The Pretty Reckless is familiar to many as model and actress Taylor Momsen, who played the role of Jenny Humphrey in the hit US TV series ‘Gossip Girl’.
Taking to the stage in a short black dress with a crucifix pointing downwards in a nod towards the cover of the band’s new album ‘Going to Hell’ which is released this week, Taylor showed off some extraordinary flexibility on stage.
‘Miss Nothing’ kicked off a perfectly formed set, consisting of a broad range of material from the band’s two albums including ‘Down the Road’, ‘Sweet Things’, ‘Cold Blooded Woman’, My Medicine’ and ‘Make Me Wanna Die’, which was the first single from the band’s debut album ‘Light me Up’. The band concluded their part in the proceedings with ‘Going to Hell’, the title track from their second album which is released this week (March 17), before making way for Fall Out Boy and what had to be one of the most anticipated gigs of the year so far.
Having had huge success in the Noughties, Fall Out Boy disbanded in 2009 only to return last year with a brand new album ‘Save Rock and Roll’ and a legion of new young fans.
Opening with ‘The Phoenix’, FOB treated the crowd to two songs from their most famous album ‘From Under the Cork Tree’ before launching into one of their biggest hits “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” and a concert that had everyone buzzing from start to finish. ‘Sugar, We're Goin Down’, ‘Dance Dance’ and ‘My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up)’ certainly kept the crowd on a high.
'Thnks fr th Mmrs' was the obvious choice in the encore, but it was also a fine choice, as this was a night the young audience won’t forget for a long time.
