RAIN or shine provide a breath of fresh air when they bring their 2014 production or Treasure Island to the area this summer.

The production, which has been on the road since the end of May, features local actor Anthony Young , as Squire Trelawney, as well as Dursley-based actors Claire Tucker and James Reynard as Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver respectively.

Jim Hawkins in middle age, as master of his own schooner. Since his ship is temporarily becalmed, Hawkins passes the time by telling the passengers (us, of course) his tale, how, in his youth, he befriended Billy Bones (Tyler Coombes who chills your blood) at the Admiral Benbow inn (or the "grog shop" as one ne'er-do-well seafaring type describes it) and soon finds himself sailing on the Hispaniola to the tropics.

The open-air show is as much for adults as for children and remains pretty faithful to the sometimes brutal story, as far as theatricality allows; with eight actors and a small stage it is definitely NOT 'Treasure Island, the Panto'!

James Reynard's adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson'smuch-loved novel is full of drama and thanks to a devoted cast who present this evocative tale of tropical islands, pirates, skullduggery and buried treasure.

Treasure Island comes to Nibley House on Thursday, July 31 at 7.30pm (01453 549700 for tickets), and the Breakheart Community Project, Dursley on Sunday, August 24 at 4pm (07900 318472).
