'A STREETCAR Named Desire' is the fastest-selling production in the Young Vic’s history and now the hottest ticket in the West End.

This production is to be be broadcast to venues across the UK from the Young Vic’s London home via National Theatre Live, and it is coming to the Bacon Theatre, Cheltenham on September 26.

As Blanche’s fragile world crumbles, she turns to her sister Stella for solace, but her downward spiral brings her face to face with the brutal, unforgiving Stanley Kowalski. Visionary director Benedict Andrews directs a remarkable production and returns to the Young Vic following his Critics’ Circle Award-winning, Three Sisters.

This production presents Tennessee Williams’ work like never seen before. Gone are the traditional white clapboard house fronts, gauzy curtains and lazy ceiling fans. Instead, the play is brought right up to date with modern clothing and props and a pulsing soundtrack, including PJ Harvey. It feels fresh, edgy, dangerous and accessible to everyone.

The cast includes Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Fall) as Blanche DuBois, Ben Foster (Lone Survivor, Kill Your Darlings) as Stanley and Vanessa Kirby (BBC’s Great Expectations, Three Sisters at the Young Vic) as Stella.
