ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)(a) THE A449 TRUNK ROAD AND THE M5 MOTORWAY (M5 JUNCTION 6, WORCESTER) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2018
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that
Highways England Company Limited
(Company No. 9346363) intends to make an
Order on the M5 Motorway, in the County
of Worcestershire, to allow major junction
improvement and maintenance works to be
carried out.
The effect of the Order will be to, at different
times, –
(1) impose a 30 miles per hour speed
restriction on –
(a) the circulatory carriageway of the A449
roundabout junction with the A4440, the
A4538 and the slip roads leading to and
from the M5 at Junction 6 (known as the
M5 Junction 6 Roundabout);;
(b) M5 northbound exit slip road at Junction
6, from a point 50 metres north of the tip
of the nosing at its junction with the M5,
to its junction with the M5 Junction 6
Roundabout;
(c) the M5 southbound exit slip road at
Junction 6, from a point 80 metres south
of the tip of the nosing at its junction
with the M5, to its junction with M5
Junction 6 Roundabout;
(d) the M5 northbound entry slip road at
Junction 6, from its junction with M5
Junction 6 Roundabout, for a distance
of 200 metres; and
(e) the M5 southbound entry slip road at
Junction 6, from its junction with M5
Junction 6 Roundabout, for a distance
of 200 metres;
(2) impose a 50 miles per hour speed
restriction on –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the M5
from a point 900 metres south of the tip of
the nosing at its junction with the exit slip
road at Junction 6, to a point 50 metres
north of that tip of the nosing;
(b) the southbound carriageway of the M5
from a point 880 metres north of the tip
of the nosing at its junction with the exit
slip road at Junction 6, to a point 80
metres south of that tip of the nosing;
(c) the M5 northbound exit slip road at
Junction 6, from a point XXX metres south
of the tip of the nosing at its junction with
the M5, to a point 50 metres north of that
tip of the nosing; and
(d) the M5 southbound exit slip road at
Junction 6, from a point XXX metres north
of the tip of the nosing at its junction with
the M5, to a point 80 metres south of that
tip of the nosing;
(3) close –
(a) the circulatory carriageway of the M5
Junction 6 Roundabout; and
(b) any slip road leading to or from the
M5 at Junction 6; and
(4) prohibit vehicles from entering or leaving
the M5 Junction 6 Roundabout at its
junctions with the A4440, the A449, the
A4538 and the access road leading to the
Apex Motocross Park.
The work is expected to start on Monday
16 April 2018 and continue for one year. The
closures will be carried out overnight between
21:00 hours and 06:30 hours. The speed
restrictions will be in operation for 24 hours per
day from 00:01 hours on Monday 16 April 2018
and continue for the duration of the works.
The Order will come into force on 15 April 2018.
Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue
authority or ambulance purposes will be
exempt from the speed restriction and closures.
Vehicles being used by the special forces will
be exempt from the speed restrictions. Vehicles
being used for traffic officer purposes, being
used in connection with the works or being
used for winter maintenance purposes will be
exempt from the closures.
Diversion routes for the slip road closures via
alternative junctions of the M5 will be signed.
Local diversion routes will also be in operation
during the roundabout closure.
