A WOMAN who formed a running group after being forced to stop doing triathlons has been nominated for a Pride of the Cotswolds award.

Anya Eames formed Frampton Running Group last July after becoming partially deaf following regular swimming. The group has now been nominated for Community Project of the Year.

Frustrated there was no running club in Frampton-on-Severn, Anya posted on Facebook to gauge interest and was inundated with replies.

Sixty people turned up for the first run and a similar number still take part each Wednesday, with some travelling there from outside the village.

Five sub-groups, all wearing red t-shirts emblazoned with swans, can regularly be seen along one of 50 routes Anya has devised.

She said: "No longer being able to do triathlons broke me but forming this group has made me realise that anything can be achieved if you really want it to and believe in yourself."

The person nominating Anya said she had got people 'healthier and happy in their lives'.

"Anya has committed a lot of time to enabling this group to establish and grow," they added.

Many of the group completed the Frampton 10K, having recently taken up running.

Anya admitted she cried after hearing of her nomination.

"I love the fact I have helped people with their fitness and health," she said.
